About Portable Document Format
Common Use Cases
- Converting web pages to printable documents
- Saving web content for offline reading
- Creating PDF from HTML reports
HTML is the language of the web, but it is not a great way to hand someone a document. A page renders differently in every browser, breaks when the stylesheet cannot load, and behaves unpredictably when printed. Converting HTML to PDF gives you a snapshot of the page exactly as it should look, bundled into a single self-contained file you can share, archive, or print.
HTML is a living document that reflows and depends on its browser environment, while a PDF is a fixed-layout file that embeds fonts and images so it renders identically anywhere without needing a browser at all.
Why Convert HTML to PDF?
Save a permanent snapshot
Web pages change. Articles get updated, invoices get archived, and references disappear. Converting HTML to PDF preserves the exact state of the content at the moment you captured it, which is essential for record-keeping, legal evidence, or citation purposes.
Print-friendly layout out of the box
The converter uses each page's print stylesheet where available, so elements meant to be hidden during printing (ads, nav bars, popups) are removed automatically. The result is a clean, paginated PDF with sensible margins instead of a chaotic screenshot of a full browser window.
One file to share instead of a folder of assets
An HTML file usually depends on CSS, images, and fonts hosted elsewhere. Send just the .html and the recipient sees a broken page. A PDF bundles all of that into a single self-contained file that opens the same everywhere with no missing assets.
Readable offline on any device
Once a page is a PDF, you can read it on a plane, an e-reader, a phone with no signal, or a tablet without a browser capable of opening your local .html file correctly. It is the simplest way to take the web with you.

How to use
- Upload your HTML file. Drag and drop an HTML file onto the upload area above, or click to browse and select one from your computer. Files up to 500 MB are supported, which is enough for even long single-page exports.
- Start the conversion. Click the Convert File button. Your HTML is rendered on our secure servers using LibreOffice with a headless page renderer, which applies the document's print stylesheet and paginates the output into a clean multi-page PDF.
- Download your PDF. When processing finishes, a download link appears. Click it to save the PDF, ready to share, print, or archive. Converted files are automatically deleted from our servers within 1 hour for your privacy.
Frequently asked questions
- Is converting HTML to PDF free?
- Yes. You can convert HTML to PDF for free with no signup required. Free anonymous users get a daily conversion allowance, registered FileFactory accounts get a higher daily cap, and Premium or Lifetime members get unlimited conversions.
- Will external CSS and images appear in the final PDF?
- External resources are loaded during conversion if they are publicly reachable on the internet. CSS and images that live on a local hard drive, inside a private network, or behind a login page will not load, so the final PDF may be missing styling or imagery. For the best results, inline your assets or bundle the file as a self-contained HTML export.
- Does JavaScript run during conversion?
- JavaScript execution during conversion is limited, which means pages that render their entire content client-side (React or Vue dashboards, for example) may appear blank or incomplete. Static HTML, server-rendered pages, articles, invoices, and receipts convert perfectly. If you need to capture a JS-heavy page, save it as a static HTML file from your browser first.
- Are links in the HTML preserved as clickable links in the PDF?
- Yes. Anchor tags pointing to URLs are preserved as clickable hyperlinks in the resulting PDF, so readers can still jump to referenced pages. Internal page anchors within the same document also remain navigable.
- Will the page look exactly like it does in my browser?
- The PDF uses the page's print stylesheet when one is defined, which often hides navigation, ads, and popups for a cleaner result. For pages without a print stylesheet, the output closely matches the on-screen layout at a standard page width, though very wide layouts may wrap or reflow to fit the PDF page.
- Is there a file size limit?
- Yes. The maximum file size for a single conversion is 500 MB, which is far more than any realistic HTML file plus its inlined assets would ever need.
- How long are my files kept on your servers?
- Uploaded files and converted output are automatically deleted within 1 hour. We never share your files with third parties and use industry-standard encryption for every upload and download.
