About Portable Document Format
Common Use Cases
- Converting presentations for sharing
- Creating non-editable presentation documents
- Archiving presentation slides
A PPTX file is built for delivering a live presentation, but it is an awkward format for handing slides to someone who just needs to read them. Recipients need compatible software, fonts can substitute, and animations can make printed output look strange. Converting to PDF flattens each slide into a clean, fixed page that anyone can open with nothing more than a browser.
PPTX is a live presentation with animations, transitions, and presenter notes, while a PDF is a static, one-slide-per-page document with embedded fonts so the visual result is locked in exactly as the slides were designed.
Why Convert PPTX to PDF?
Readable without PowerPoint
Not every recipient has PowerPoint, and Google Slides or Keynote can render a PPTX with subtle font substitutions and layout shifts. A PDF opens identically on every device in every OS, so your slides look exactly the way you built them regardless of what software the viewer has.
Predictable printing, one slide per page
Printing from PowerPoint can produce multiple slides per page, cropped content, or scaled-down output depending on the print settings. Exporting to PDF gives you a clean one-slide-per-page document that prints predictably on any printer and makes great handouts for meetings and conferences.
Smaller, more portable file
PPTX files can be surprisingly heavy once they contain embedded videos, high-resolution images, and complex animations. PDF output is often more compact and always more portable, since it does not need any of the authoring metadata that bloats an editable presentation.
Safer for distribution
Sending a PPTX hands recipients the full editable source of your presentation. A PDF sends a read-only version, which is the right choice for slides going to clients, public audiences, conference organizers, or anywhere you want the deck to be seen but not easily tampered with.

How to use
- Upload your PPTX file. Drag and drop a PowerPoint file onto the upload area above, or click to browse and select one from your computer. Files up to 500 MB are supported, which easily covers even long decks packed with high-resolution images and embedded media.
- Start the conversion. Click the Convert File button. Your presentation is processed on our secure servers using LibreOffice, an open-source office suite with excellent PowerPoint compatibility, which renders each slide to a single page in the output PDF.
- Download your PDF. When processing finishes, a download link appears. Click it to save the PDF, ready to email, upload, or print. Converted files are automatically deleted from our servers within 1 hour for your privacy.
Frequently asked questions
- Is converting PPTX to PDF free?
- Yes. You can convert PPTX to PDF for free with no signup required. Free anonymous users get a daily conversion allowance, registered FileFactory accounts get a higher daily cap, and Premium or Lifetime members enjoy unlimited conversions.
- Will animations and transitions be preserved?
- No. PDF is a static document format, so all animations, transitions, and build effects are flattened. Each slide becomes a single still page showing the final state after all animations have played. If you need motion, consider exporting the deck as a video directly from PowerPoint instead.
- What about embedded videos and audio?
- Embedded media is not playable inside a PDF. Videos are represented by their poster image or first frame, and audio is dropped entirely. For presentations where media playback is essential, keep the PPTX or export to video.
- Will my custom fonts come through correctly?
- Common fonts are embedded correctly, which keeps your typography intact. Very unusual or licensed fonts may be substituted if the server does not have access to them. If typography matters, pick widely available fonts or convert branded text to images before exporting.
- How many slides per page are in the output PDF?
- One slide per page, using the slide dimensions defined in the PPTX (standard 16:9 by default). If you want multiple slides per printed page as a handout, set that option in your PDF reader's print dialog when printing.
- Is there a file size limit?
- Yes. The maximum file size for a single conversion is 500 MB, which is more than enough for even very long decks with high-resolution imagery.
- How long are my files kept on your servers?
- Uploaded files and converted output are automatically deleted within 1 hour. We never share your files with third parties and use industry-standard encryption for every upload and download.
