Frequently asked questions
- Which date formats does this tool recognise?
- It handles ISO 8601 (YYYY-MM-DD), US slash notation (MM/DD/YYYY), European dash notation (DD-MM-YYYY), and natural-language forms like "January 15 2024" and common variants with abbreviated month names. Dates with two-digit years are not matched to avoid ambiguity.
- What happens with ambiguous dates like 01/02/2024?
- Ambiguous formats are matched by detection order. A string like 01/02/2024 could be January 2nd (US) or February 1st (European). The extractor returns the string as written and does not attempt to resolve the ambiguity, so you should apply your own interpretation based on the document origin.
- Does it also extract times or timestamps?
- Not in the current implementation. Time components like HH:MM:SS are not captured, so a full ISO 8601 timestamp like 2024-01-15T14:30:00Z would yield only the date portion 2024-01-15.
- Does this tool send my text to a server?
- No. All matching runs in your browser. Nothing you paste is transmitted anywhere.
- Are duplicate dates removed?
- Yes. The same date string appearing multiple times in the input is listed only once in the output. Note that 2024-01-15 and 01/15/2024, while representing the same calendar day, are treated as different strings and would both appear if both formats are present.
