About 3D Manufacturing Format
Common Use Cases
- Printing web 3D models and AR assets
- Converting three.js scenes for 3D printing
- Manufacturing physical versions of digital 3D products
GLB is the delivery format for web 3D and AR, but 3D printers need manufacturing-oriented files. 3MF is the modern print format that preserves material colors, multi-part models, and print metadata. Converting GLB to 3MF takes your web-ready 3D assets and makes them printable on any modern 3D printer.
GLB is optimized for real-time rendering with PBR materials and GPU-friendly buffers. 3MF is optimized for manufacturing with print settings, color assignments, and build plate layout in a compressed ZIP package.
Why Convert GLB to 3MF?
Print web 3D models
Turn three.js scenes, AR assets, and online 3D configurator outputs into physical objects by converting to 3MF for your slicer.
Preserve material colors
PBR material colors from the GLB are mapped to 3MF color definitions for full-color printing on compatible printers.
Multi-part model support
Separate mesh nodes from the GLB scene are preserved as individual components in the 3MF, maintaining your model organization.
Modern slicer compatibility
Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, and other modern slicers all support 3MF as a first-class input format.
When to use each
Use GLB when...
- Displaying 3D in web browsers
- AR experiences on mobile devices
- Real-time rendering with PBR
- Efficient web delivery
- three.js and Babylon.js apps
Use 3MF when...
- 3D printing with modern slicers
- Multi-color and multi-material printing
- Manufacturing with embedded print settings
- Compact ZIP-based print files
- Physical fabrication of digital assets

How to use
- Upload your GLB file. Drag and drop a .glb file onto the upload area, or click to browse. Files up to 500 MB are supported.
- Start the conversion. Click Convert File. GLB geometry and material colors are extracted and packaged into a 3MF manufacturing file.
- Download your 3MF. Save the .3mf file and open it in Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, or any 3MF-compatible slicer. Files are deleted from our servers within 1 hour.
Frequently asked questions
- Are PBR materials converted?
- Material base colors are mapped to 3MF color definitions. PBR properties like roughness and metalness are not used in 3D printing and are stripped.
- What happens to animations?
- Animations are stripped. 3MF stores static geometry for manufacturing.
- Are textures preserved?
- Texture maps are not directly supported in 3MF the same way as in glTF. Material colors are used instead.
- Which slicers support 3MF?
- Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, Simplify3D, and Windows 3D Builder all support 3MF natively.
- Are multiple mesh nodes preserved?
- Yes. Separate mesh nodes from the GLB scene are preserved as individual components in the 3MF package.
- Is converting GLB to 3MF free?
- Yes. Free with no signup. Anonymous users get a daily allowance, registered accounts get higher limits, and Premium or Lifetime members get unlimited conversions.
- What is the file size limit?
- The maximum file size is 500 MB per conversion.
