Granularity
How to use
- Paste both texts. Original on the left, changed version on the right.
- Pick granularity. Characters, words, or lines.
- Read the diff. Green is added, red is removed.
Common use cases
- Comparing copy revisions
- Reviewing config changes
- Spot-checking translations
Frequently asked questions
- What does each granularity option do?
- Character mode highlights individual character changes (great for one-line strings). Word mode treats whitespace-separated tokens as the diff unit (best for prose). Line mode treats whole lines as the unit (best for code, configs, and long documents).
- How does Ignore whitespace work?
- It collapses runs of whitespace before comparing, so reformatted indentation or trailing spaces no longer show as changes. The displayed text still uses the original whitespace.
- What format does the Download .txt produce?
- A unified-style text diff with each line prefixed by + (added), - (removed), or a space (unchanged). The result is suitable for sharing in tickets, code reviews, or chat without losing the diff structure.
- Will this tool detect moved blocks?
- No. The diff algorithm shows additions and removals but does not detect that a block was moved from one location to another. Use a dedicated source-control diff tool for move detection.
- Is the text I paste sent to a server?
- No. The diff runs in your browser using the diff library; sensitive text never leaves your device.
