- Copy the decoded text. Plain text output.
Common use cases
- Extracting text from scraped HTML
- Reading encoded CMS output
- Debugging entity escaping
Frequently asked questions
- Which entity formats does this decoder accept?
- All three forms: named entities (&, ©, —), decimal numeric entities (©), and hex numeric entities (©). Mixed inputs are decoded correctly.
- Will it leave non-entity characters alone?
- Yes. Anything that is not a valid HTML entity passes through unchanged, so plain text mixed with entities is decoded correctly.
- How is this different from a Unicode unescape tool?
- HTML entities are an HTML-spec convention (©, ©). Unicode escapes are a JavaScript / programming convention (\u00A9, \u{1F600}). They produce the same characters but use different syntax. Use the matching tool for the source format.
- Will it correctly decode emoji and other astral plane characters?
- Yes. Numeric entities for astral plane code points (e.g. 😀 for grinning face emoji) decode to the correct surrogate pair in JavaScript strings.
- Does decoding happen in the browser?
- Yes. The he library handles decoding locally, with no network calls.
