About Email Message (RFC 822)
Common Use Cases
- Opening Outlook emails in Thunderbird or Apple Mail
- Migrating from Outlook to another email client
- Archiving emails in an open standard format
Microsoft Outlook stores emails as proprietary .msg files that require Outlook (or Exchange) to open. EML is the open internet standard (RFC 822) that virtually every email client understands. Converting MSG to EML lets you read, archive, and forward Outlook emails without depending on Microsoft software.
MSG is a proprietary Microsoft format tied to Outlook and Exchange. EML is the open internet standard that Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Gmail, and every RFC 822 client reads natively.
Why Convert MSG to EML?
Open Outlook emails without Outlook
If you receive .msg files but do not have Outlook installed, convert them to EML and open them in Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or any email client on any platform.
Migrate to any email client
Moving from Outlook to Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or Gmail? Convert your MSG archive to EML and import it into your new client without data loss.
Cross-platform email sharing
Share email messages with Linux and Mac users who cannot open MSG files. EML works on every operating system and email client.
