About Portable Document Format
Common Use Cases
- Converting digital books for wider compatibility
- Creating printable versions of ebooks
- Sharing ebook content across platforms
EPUB is the open standard for ebooks: reflowable text that adapts to any screen size, perfect for e-readers. PDF is the opposite: a fixed-layout document with hard page breaks. Converting EPUB to PDF is useful when you need to print a book, email it to someone who does not own an e-reader, or read it in an app that does not accept EPUB files. Just know going in that you are trading flexibility for a locked layout.
EPUB is reflowable and page-less by design, while PDF is fixed-layout with hard page breaks, so the converter has to synthesize page boundaries that never existed in the source file.
Why Convert EPUB to PDF?
Read on devices that do not support EPUB
Kindle devices, many corporate laptops, and some mobile apps will not open EPUB files directly but happily display PDFs. Converting lets you sideload a book onto any reading device without installing extra software.
Print an ebook
EPUB is page-less, so you cannot send it to a printer and get a predictable result. Exporting to PDF produces real page breaks and printable margins, which is what you want if you are making a physical copy for study, travel, or offline reading.
Share with anyone, anywhere
PDF is the universal document format. Email a PDF to a friend and they will open it on their phone without a second thought, where EPUB would prompt them to find a reader app first. Conversion removes the friction for non-technical recipients.
Annotate with standard PDF tools
Many people prefer the highlighting and note-taking tools in their PDF reader to what a given EPUB reader offers. Converting unlocks that entire ecosystem, from Preview on macOS to Xodo on mobile to Adobe Acrobat on desktop.

Frequently asked questions
- Is converting EPUB to PDF free?
- Yes. EPUB to PDF is free to use with no signup required. Free users get a daily conversion allowance, registered FileFactory accounts get higher limits, and Premium or Lifetime members enjoy unlimited conversions.
- Will the ebook look exactly the same in PDF?
- Not exactly. EPUB is reflowable and page-less, so the converter has to introduce page breaks, which may fall in slightly different places than the publisher intended. Text, images, and chapter order all come through correctly, but the exact look of each page will differ from how the EPUB rendered on your e-reader.
- Can I convert a DRM-protected EPUB?
- No. We only convert DRM-free files. EPUBs purchased from stores that wrap books in digital rights management (such as Adobe ADEPT or proprietary store-specific DRM) will fail to convert. If you legally own a DRM-free EPUB, it will work fine.
- What page size and margins does the PDF use?
- Our default output uses a standard page size suitable for reading on tablets and desktops. The page size is fixed by the conversion settings; if you need a specific format (for example, a particular e-reader screen), let us know and we can adjust.
- Is there a file size limit?
- Yes. The maximum upload size for a single conversion is 500 MB, which is far larger than any normal ebook. Even heavily illustrated cookbooks and art books fit comfortably.
- How long are my files kept on your servers?
- Uploaded EPUB files and converted PDF output are automatically deleted within 1 hour. We never share files with third parties and every transfer uses encrypted connections.
- Will the table of contents still work?
- Yes. Calibre generates PDF bookmarks from the EPUB table of contents, so chapter navigation works in any modern PDF reader. Clickable internal links within the ebook are also preserved where possible.
